Qatar Airways is the first airline in the Middle East to begin trials of the new IATA travel pass digital passport mobile app that began on 11th March 2021.  They are the first group to experience the digital passport app that focus on playing a role in ensuring a contactless, secure and seamless travel experience are the passengers on the Doha to Istanbul route.

The passengers are ensured to get updates on COVID-19 health regulations for their destination country and complying with the global data privacy regulations with their IATA travel pass. The pass enables sharing COVID-19 test results with the airlines to check and see if the passengers can travel.

Mr. Akbar Al Baker, the chief executive of the Qatar Airways group has said,

“We have faith in the IATA travel pass’s credibility which is a reliable and creative solution that has been given as a long-term entry rule engine and the chance to offer long term solutions. We are proud to be at the forefront, being the first airline to take on this trial.”

Qatar Airways offers several unlimited date changes and fee free refunds for tickets bought before the 30th of April 2021 for travel completed by 31st December 2021.

The director general and CEO, Alexandre de Juniac, has also said,

Qatar airways will always continue to show its industry leadership. The travel pass will verify testing or the travelers' credentials, the key to unlocking travel without quarantine measures. The digital passport will help build confidence and ensure that the pass is safe and will link the identities of a traveler with their digital travel credentials. We are proud to be offering such services and will continue to do our best.”
