-By Mr. Abdul Hamid Nazir Ahmed Surti

I sometimes wonder what life would be like if we did not travel and every time, this thought leaves me speechless.

A few years back, traveling for me was all about ticking off my favorite destinations. But over time, this perspective has changed, and today it’s more about shared laughter, new experiences, and the little moments spent with family.

With my wife by my side and our two kids, I set off on a 10-day trip to Georgia, and it was everything we had hoped for – or maybe more!

Nestled between Europe and Asia, this beautiful country has a charm that you will experience nowhere else. From the cobblestone streets of Tbilisi and historic walls of Ananuri to the serene peaks of Gudauri and breezy shores of Batumi, each stop added a new story to our family holiday.

Summing it all up, our Georgia trip was nothing short of amazing. It had city exploration, adventure, relaxation, and so many beautiful views that we could not even capture with our camera.

But none of it would have been possible without Myholidays! Yes, it's this online travel agency (OTA) that made our family holiday into a seamless and unforgettable experience.

After reaching out to their team, the travel executive shared a range of Qatar to Georgia tour packages tailored to my preferences. After some careful discussion and consideration, my wife and I agreed on one package and requested a few customizations to make it more suitable for traveling with kids.

From accommodation and travel arrangements to guided tours and additional activities, everything was meticulously planned to cater to each one of us.

As they say, ‘the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page’, and I certainly wouldn’t want to be the one to stop at the first page. Until we head for our next family adventure, read on to discover our Georgia travel story and how Myholidays made it even more special for us!

Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi, Georgia

Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi, Georgia

Finally, the day we had been waiting for was here! On the night of 20th October, we headed to Hamad International Airport (DOH) with no sleep in our eyes but rather shining wide with excitement and anticipation.

At midnight, we boarded our direct flight from Doha to Tbilisi at the scheduled time and landed at Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) early morning after a journey of about 5 hours 30 minutes. Just as the first morning rays and warm smiles greeted us, we knew Georgia was going to be a one-of-a-kind experience.

Without any delay, we stepped out of the airport to find our driver was waiting for us with a name sign. After a warm meet-and-greet, we hopped into our private car and headed to the 4-star New Tiflis Hotel located in the heart of Tbilisi City.

In about 40 minutes, we arrived at the hotel. Once the check-in was done, the hotel staff assisted us in our Standard Triple Room to settle and relax. We spent the rest of the day just resting in our room, trying to recover from the exhausting journey.

Later in the evening, we got dolled up to soak in the enchanting beauty of the city. Walking through the streets, we were amazed to see the entire city painted in golden and red hues. The cool air brushed against our faces, and soon lights twinkled everywhere.

For dinner, we luckily found an elegant cafe in the area that served not only delicious food but also warm hospitality. We chose to walk to our hotel after dinner, and it surely was one of the most memorable walks I have taken in my life so far.

The first day in Tbilisi ended on a pleasant note and filled our hearts with hopes for better adventures in the days to come.

Day 2: Discovering the Heart of Tbilisi, Georgia

Day 2: Discovering the Heart of Tbilisi, Georgia

Our first morning in Tbilisi began with a beautiful view from the hotel window, a comforting start to what promised to be a day full of exploration. After breakfast, we set out to discover Old Tbilisi, the heart of the Georgian capital.

Our first stop was Metekhi Church (Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary), perched gracefully on a cliff overlooking the Mtkvari River and Meidan Square below. Standing there, we could feel the layers of history around us, and the view of Tbilisi city was breathtaking with old rooftops, winding lanes, and the modern Bridge of Peace in the distance.

Next, we walked across the iconic Bridge of Peace to Rike Park, which felt like stepping between two worlds, from the old city behind us to the modern side ahead. The bridge itself is a marvel of glass and steel, shimmering in the sunlight. Not a person strolling across could pass by without pausing for some stunning snaps of the river below, including us, of course!

Soon, we reached the enchanting Clock Tower (also known as the Leaning Tower of Tbilisi), one of the most whimsical landmarks in Tbilisi. We waited eagerly for the hour to strike, and when it did, a tiny angel appeared to ring the bell with a small hammer. The moment was so charming and magical that not just the children but even the elderly couldn’t help but smile.

From there, we wandered down Shardeni Street, lined with elegant cafes, art galleries, and boutiques. The street buzzed with music and laughter, immersing our hearts into the vibrant atmosphere. It was easy to see why no visitor ever leaves Tbilisi without walking here!

Later, we took a cable car ride up to Narikala Fortress, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. As the car rose higher, the view of red rooftops, church spires, and the winding river unfolded beneath us – and it was absolutely beautiful. Right at the top, stood the ancient fortress with its stone walls whispering tales of battles and empires from the past.

A short walk from there brought us to the statue of the Mother of Georgia, overlooking the city. With a sword in one hand and a cup of wine in the other, the monument perfectly embodies the Georgian spirit that is both fierce and hospitable.

Our final stop of the day was the Abanotubani District, famous for its ancient sulfur baths. The domed brick roofs, carved wooden balconies, and the faint, earthy scent of sulfur added a timeless charm to the area. Strolling past the baths and dipping our hands into the warm mineral water was the perfect way to end the day.

As the evening settled over Tbilisi, we stepped into a local restaurant for a traditional dinner along with live music. From there, we made our way to the hotel, tired but deeply content with the day’s exploration and discovery. The city had revealed its different faces – ancient, spiritual, artistic, and modern – all seamlessly woven together!

Day 3: Transfer from Tbilisi to Gudauri

Day 3: Transfer from Tbilisi to Gudauri

On the third day, we enjoyed an early breakfast with a beautiful view. Then, we quickly gathered our stuff and checked out of the 4-star hotel in Tbilisi. Then, we hopped into a private air-conditioned car and set off to Gudauri, located about 120 km away.

Along the way, we stopped at Chronicles of Georgia (History Memorial of Georgia) and it was all worth it. The huge pillars on the site offer an insight into the history of Georgia and the life of Jesus. The views of the Tbilisi Sea and the surrounding mountains from the top are breathtaking!

Next, we headed to the Ananuri Fortress Complex. Perched just above the shimmering waters of Zhinvali Dam, this historic castle was once the residence of the Aragvi Dukes during the 16th and 17th centuries. After exploring its ancient walls and churches, we left the place filled with stories of the past and stunning views.

We arrived in Gudauri at the end of the day and checked in at the 4-star Gudauri Inn Hotel, prebooked with our Georgia tour package from Myholidays. After dinner, my wife and I indulged in some heartfelt conversation while the kids soon fell asleep!

Day 4: Unveiling the Majestic Mountain Scenery of Kazbegi

Day 4 of the Georgia tour had a quiet start with sunlight spilling through the hotel window and the hum of Tbilisi outside waking us up!

After breakfast, we loaded our bags into the vehicle and began our journey north toward Kazbegi, a route with the most dramatic mountain scenery in Georgia.

As we left the city behind, the landscape began to transform. Gentle hills made way for rugged cliffs, winding roads, and valleys with snow. The drive itself felt like part of the adventure, with each turn revealing another postcard-perfect view.

Our first stop was the Gudauri Panorama, also known as the Friendship Monument. This massive circular balcony perched on the edge of a 600-meter cliff was built in the late 19th century. Standing there, we felt both exhilarated and close to nature.

The vast landscape of the Caucasus Mountains stretched endlessly before me, with snow-capped peaks piercing the sky, deep gorges below, and clouds lazily drifting across the summits. The monument features colorful mosaic artwork that contrasts beautifully with the mountains, standing as a vibrant tribute to the unity and endurance of this region.

Then, we continued our drive towards Kazbegi (officially known as Stepantsminda), tucked at the foothills of Mount Kazbegi, the third-highest peak in Georgia.

Upon arriving in the town, we took a thrilling drive up a steep, winding road to reach Gergeti Trinity Church. Sitting at an altitude of 2,170 meters above sea level, this 14th-century church is a place that doesn’t just please the eye but stirs something deep inside.

Later in the afternoon, we headed back to Gudauri. By the time we arrived, the sky had turned into a deep shade of gold, and the mountain air was crisp and cold.

We checked into the 4-star Gudauri Inn, which was prebooked with our Georgia tour package. I found myself gazing out at the starlit peaks from the window, feeling both small and incredibly alive. The day was full of experiences that will stay long after the journey ends!

Day 5: From Gadauri to Borjomi

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, I packed my bags, feeling that familiar mix of excitement and nostalgia that always comes with checking out and moving on to the next adventure. The road ahead promised history carved in stone and the healing embrace of nature — two things Georgia seems to offer in abundance.

Our first destination was Uplistsikhe Cave, a name that translates to “Lord’s Fortress.” As we drove through the rolling landscapes, I found myself imagining the lives that once filled these hills — merchants, priests, travelers — all part of a civilization that thrived long before the modern world even existed.

When we arrived, the ancient rock-hewn town rose before us like something out of a legend. Pathways and chambers were carved directly into the cliffs, their rough edges softened by centuries of wind and sun. Walking through the caves, I could almost hear the echoes of ancient prayers and market chatter that once filled these stone corridors. The air carried a sense of reverence; this wasn’t just a site of ruins, but a living chapter of the Caucasus’ story.

After exploring Uplistsikhe, we continued our journey south toward Borjomi — a name synonymous with Georgia’s famous mineral water. The scenery changed as we drove; the dry, stony hills gave way to lush valleys and dense forests. When we reached Borjomi, the crisp mountain air greeted us like a cool drink of water.

We spent the afternoon wandering through Borjomi Central Park, a beautiful blend of nature and legend. The park’s pathways wound through towering trees and over small bridges, leading to mineral springs where locals and tourists alike sipped from the healing waters. At one point, I came upon the statue of Prometheus, standing proudly at the base of a gentle waterfall. It was easy to see why the Georgians connect this mythic figure with the spirit of their land — strong, enduring, and generous.

As the sun dipped behind the mountains, I felt a deep sense of calm. The day had been full — history in the morning, nature in the afternoon — and now, as we checked into our hotel in Borjomi, the promise of a quiet night’s rest awaited. Tomorrow would bring new places, but tonight, I simply wanted to breathe in the pine-scented air and let the memories of the day settle in.

After dinner, we enjoyed an overnight stay in Borjomi.

Day 6: Journey Through Time & Nature - Akhaltsikhe & Mtsvane Monastery Tour

After a peaceful night’s sleep, the morning began with a delicious breakfast in the comfort of our cozy hotel in Borjomi. We could smell fresh bread and feel the fresh air brushing on our faces.

Then, I packed my camera and jacket, and we were ready for another day of discovery. Our route today would take us deeper into the southern region of Georgia to explore Akhaltsikhe.

The drive itself was a delight. We passed through the winding roads through forested hills, small villages, and river valleys that seemed untouched by time.

When we finally arrived in Akhaltsikhe, the sight of Rabati Castle (Akhaltsikhe Castle) instantly caught my breath. Sitting on a hilltop with stone walls and towers, the castle looks like something straight out of a medieval legend.

Once the residence of local rulers, the castle features a citadel, a treasury, a mosque, and a palace. What struck me most was how beautifully it blended architecture from different cultures like Georgian, Ottoman, Hebrew and Armenian within one complex!

After exploring the castle and wandering through its cobbled walkways, we continued our journey toward the Mtsvane Monastery (also known as the Green Monastery). The road narrowed as we entered dense woodland and sunlight filtering through the leaves created a stunning display of emerald hues.

When we finally reached the monastery, it felt like we had stumbled upon a secret hidden deep in nature. Built in the 9th century, the monastery is made of green-hued stone that perfectly blends with the forested backdrop. All we could hear was the sound of rustling leaves, birdsongs, and the gentle whisper of wind blowing through the trees.

As the day drew to a close, we drove back to Borjomi. Back at the hotel, I sat by the window with a cup of tea, replaying the day in my mind. The day had added yet another interesting chapter to our travel tale.

Day 7: Batumi Calling - From Castles to Coast!

Day 7: Batumi Calling - From Castles to Coast!

Post breakfast, we packed our bags and checked out of the hotel in Borjomi. As we left the quiet mountain scenery behind, the coastal charm of western Georgia started to take over us!

We began our journey to Batumi, enjoying the change from the cool, mysterious beauty of an underground wonder to the sunlit shores of the Black Sea.

Our first stop was the legendary Prometheus Cave, one of the most beautiful caverns in Europe. As we approached the site, I could feel quiet anticipation build within me. There's something thrilling about entering the heart of the earth.

The moment we stepped inside the cave, it transported us to another world. The air was cool and damp, and the dim lights revealed a surreal landscape of stalactites and stalagmites, shaped over millions of years. Some sparkled in the artificial glow, like chandeliers in nature’s grand hall.

The underground trail stretched for 1.4 kilometers, leading us through six vast chambers with their unique characters. Every turn revealed something new. There were underground rivers shimmering in the light, small waterfalls echoing through the caverns, and rock formations that seemed almost alive.

After coming out of the cave, we continued our journey towards Batumi, known fondly as the pearl of the Black Sea. The landscape shifted once again, from the hills to coastal plains.

We arrived in Batumi after a 2.5-hour drive, and the city immediately felt unlike anywhere else we had visited in Georgia. After completing the check-in formalities at Aqua Batumi Hotel & Apartments, we settled our luggage in the room and took a moment to relax.

Without wasting any time, we strolled down to Batumi Boulevard. As the sun dipped into the sea, the sky was brushed with soft shades of pink and gold, and the rhythmic sound of the waves filled the air with calmness.

For dinner, we chose a charming cafe nearby, where we enjoyed a wholesome meal before returning to our hotel. The day ended with an overwhelming sense of contentment, the kind that only comes at the close of a long journey filled with wonder.

Day 8: Uncovering the Gems of Batumi

After breakfast at the hotel in Batumi, we set out for a day that promised to showcase both the elegance of the city and the wild beauty of its surrounding landscapes.

Our first stop of the day was European Square, the beating heart of Batumi Old Town. The square has its own charm with elegant facades, pastel-colored buildings, and a sense of openness. Right at the center stands the Statue of Medea, holding the Golden Fleece high above her head, serving as a reminder of the ancient myth that ties Georgia to the legend of Jason and the Argonauts.

From there, we strolled through nearby streets to see landmarks like Piazza Square and the Statue of Neptune. Along the way was one of the most beautiful Astronomical Clocks I’ve ever seen, known for its golden details gleaming against the blue sky.

We continued to the iconic Batumi Boulevard, stretching over 7 kilometers along the coast. The promenade was filled with cyclists, families strolling under palm trees, and scent of the blooming flowers.

The most vivid sight along the promenade was the Alphabet Tower, a glittering helix-shaped monument that celebrates the unique alphabets of Georgia.

And then we came across the moving statue of Ali and Nino, which was even better! Watching the two figures slowly rotate and merge together was mesmerizing. We took several pictures in front of the statue before moving ahead.

After soaking in the seaside serenity, we drove toward the mountains of Adjara to visit the Makhuntseti Waterfall. The journey led through the winding roads, lush valleys and small villages with stone houses and vineyards.

The sound of rushing water filled the air long before the waterfall came into view. When we finally reached the waterfall, it was so charming to look at. Cascading from nearly 50 meters down a cliff, the waterfall is surrounded by greenery and mist rising into the sunlight – a view that not even the photos can do justice to!

Just nearby stands the Tamar Bridge, an elegant stone arch stretching gracefully across the river. Built during the reign of Queen Tamar in the 12th century, this 20-meter-long bridge was used by travelers for nearly a thousand years. The combination of ancient architecture and natural beauty made this spot one of my favorites of the entire Georgia trip.

Later, we made our way back to Batumi. The city lights began to shimmer and reflected on the calm waters of the sea. We ended the evening with a quiet walk along the boulevard once more, watching the colors of the Ferris wheel dance across the sky.

Day 9: Journey from Batumi to Tbilisi

Day 9: Journey from Batumi to Tbilisi

The morning began with the soft murmur of waves outside our hotel window in Batumi. After breakfast, we packed our suitcase and took some last glimpses of the Black Sea before we began our long journey back to the capital of Tbilisi. The drive from Batumi to Tbilisi was long but beautiful, winding through changing landscapes.

After several hours on the road, we took some time to explore Jvari Monastery along the way. Perched high atop a mountain, this 6th-century monastery is a symbol of Georgia’s spiritual identity. From the terrace, the view was nothing short of breathtaking. We could clearly see the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers as colors of their waters merged like threads of history.

From Jvari, we moved to Mtskheta, one of the oldest and most sacred cities in Georgia. Upon arriving in the city, we drove straight to Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Dating back to the 11th century, this UNESCO-listed site is the burial site of Christ’s robe.

Not just the surroundings, but even the architecture speaks volumes of its significance. Along with other pilgrims, we moved quietly through the aisles, lighting candles and bowing in prayer as a part of a centuries-old tradition.

Then we continued our drive to Tbilisi. As the familiar skyline came into view, I felt a wave of comfort. The Georgian capital seemed to welcome us back like an old friend.

By the time we checked into our hotel, it was dark already and the city was glowing with golden lights. After dinner, we went to bed early with gratitude for each experience of the day.

Day 10: Departure Day - Goodbye Georgia!

Day 10: Departure Day - Goodbye Georgia!

Morning came gently over Tbilisi, the city bathed in soft autumn light. It was my last day in Georgia, and as I sat by the window of my hotel room, sipping my final cup of Georgian coffee, I couldn’t help but replay the journey in my mind — the misty mountains of Kazbegi, the cave wonders of Prometheus, the sparkling shores of Batumi, and the soulful streets of Tbilisi itself. Every corner of this country had told a story, and somehow, each one had stayed with me.

After breakfast, I packed my bags slowly, reluctant to close this chapter. The hotel lobby buzzed softly with travelers coming and going, yet everything felt unhurried — as if Georgia itself was giving me time to say goodbye. Soon, it was time to leave.

The drive to Tbilisi International Airport was quiet and reflective. The city passed by in flashes — familiar landmarks, bridges I’d crossed, the winding Mtkvari River glinting in the sunlight. It struck me how much this place had come to feel like home in such a short time.

At the airport, after checking in and completing the formalities, I found a moment to stand by the window overlooking the runway. The plane that would take me away waited patiently, its silver wings catching the noon sun. My departure was scheduled for 12:35 PM, but part of me wasn’t quite ready to leave.

As I watched the sky stretch endlessly above the Georgian hills, I made a quiet promise to return someday — to walk the cobbled lanes of Old Tbilisi again, to breathe in the mountain air of Gudauri, and to feel that unmistakable warmth of Georgian hospitality once more.

With that thought, I boarded my flight, carrying home not just memories, but the spirit of a country that had touched my heart in ways words can only begin to capture.
